Rongpang Reju totally dominated a lackluster Telongjem FC handing a 6-1 defeat at the third quarter-finals match of the ongoing MDFA Trophy 2017 here today at the Imkongmeren Sports Complex.
Considered the underdogs of the tournament, Rongpang Reju made the naysayers eat their words through the resounding win over tournament favourites Telongjem FC. With a well greased midfield that has performed time and again, Rongpang could well be a contender for the 25th MDFA Trophy.
Striker Temjenmeren was at his best finishing the game with a triple that came in the first half. His first goal came in the 9th minute through a spot kick penalty awarded for a foul inside the D-Box. He followed up the rather lucky break connecting beautifully a cross and sending the goal past a dazed Telongjem goalie. The third was the result of a superb corner kick which Temjenmeren completed with a clean header.
The counter attack from Telongjem paid off as Bendangtoshi took advantage of a gap in the Rongpang defense to score a face-saving goal in the 41st minute.
The second half witnessed a resurrected Telongjem going on the offensive Rongpang proved to be the better goal converter with a 80th minute 4th goal. The jolt had the Telongjem defense in disarray, which Rongpang took good advantage of scoring the 5th and 6th goal in the 82nd and 90th minute.
