Defending champion Zonipang SA pummeled Kumlong SA 4-0 in the on-going MDFA Trophy 2018, at the Imkongmeren Sports, Mokokchung on Saturday.
A brace each from Suponglemba and Ketho Zhapo claimed Zonipang’s second victory. Zonipang was rarely troubled by a Kumlong side that defended in numbers but posed not much threat up front.
Striker Suponglemba put Zonipang ahead after 22 minutes with a superb shot. Ketho Zhapo doubled the lead 15 minutes into the second half when he took a pass on the edge of the box and swept a right-footed shot home after the Kumlong defence opened up in front of him. Suponglemba grabbed his second goal in the 54th minute and Ketho Zhapo made it 4-0 in the 68th minute with a superb header. Imkongyapang of Kumlong was awarded a yellow card.
In the second match, Y/A Marepkong made amends for its loss to Zonipang on October 10 beating OCYU 2-1. Defender Moasosang gave Marepkong the first lead 27 minutes into the game while forward Keyiculeung added the second goal in the 42nd minute of the second half.
OCYU’s goal came through penalty when one of his main players was taken down in the 58th minute of the game. The shot was taken by Imnasashi.
F/C Young Boys 3-0 blanked Alempang Y/A 3-0 in the third match. Pressure mounted on Alempang when the referee declared a penalty shot in the 27 minutes for a hand ball foul in the penalty area.
The shot was sucessfully taken by F/C Young Boys right-out Pangjungmere. Two more goals were added in the 39th and 58th minute.
