Dimapur, July 28 (MExN): The Mon District Legal Services Authority (MDLSA) and Wokha District Legal Services Authority (WDLSA) organized a one-day awareness programme on separate events on July 26.

 


MDLSA held a one-day awareness programme for DBs and GBs of Aboi Sub-division at Aboi town.

 


Chief Judicial Magistrate cum Secretary Mon DLSA Seyielenuo Mezhii, NJS delivered the keynote address and spoke on “Basic procedures of Law” (Cr.Pc/C.Pc procedure) provided under Rules of Administration of justice & police. 

 


She also stated that Nagaland state is very unique because of the special act under Article 371 in the Indian constitution. “Justice, equity and good conscience must be practiced both in the Indian Judiciary Court and Customary,” she underscored.  

 


EAC Aboi Lithrila Sangtam, NCS in her speech urged DBs & GBs to be sincere and do justice for they are the implementers of law & order at the grassroots level in the state. She also encouraged the practice of record keeping in the customary court for more effective running in near future. 

 


Topha Konyak, Panel Lawyer spoke on Lok Adalat and its mechanism and Money Lender Act & Jurisdictional Authority, while M Moba, Retainer Lawyer shared the activities of MDLSA and encouraged the participants to make awareness to public on what they have learned.

 


WDLSA: The Wokha District Legal Services Authority (WDLSA) in collaboration with Opiod Substitution Therapy (OST), Sanis and Zion Welfare Society Tihad organized an activity of awareness with users at Sanis Sub-division, Wokha District on July 26. 

 


Khrievono Seletsu, Judicial Magistrate First Class & Secretary WDLSA in her keynote address opined that many lives have been lost due to illegal movement and drugs abuse, and urged each person to contribute to tackle the problem of the menace. 

 


Seyiekhrietuo Solo, EAC Sanis stated that the challenges being posed by the increasing drug abuse in a place like Sanis have reached a rising figure and stressed that taking necessary steps for prevention and eradication was the need of the hour. 

 


Dr Eshenthung, Nodal officer OST Sanis said that OST is an intervention for opiod-dependent person that replace illicit drug use with alternate, prescribed medicines, and enable users to reduce or cease from use of drugs. Many users fail to avail this benefit because of Social Stigma & Discrimination, he added.

 


Bichow Patton, PM, Zion Welfare Society speaking on Harm Reduction said it is a set of practical strategies aimed at reducing negative consequences associated with drug use. Presently ZWS is providing services to 453 registered users in Sanis Area.   

 


Renbonthung Tsanglao Panel Lawyer WDLSA highlighted various government welfare schemes available. Shanchobeni P Lotha, Project Assistant WDLSA spoke on the NALSA (Legal Services to the Victims of Drug Abuse and Eradication of Drug Menace) Scheme 2015. An important highlight of the programme included signature campaign on "No to Drugs.” Pastor Khodao Mozhui of Sanis O Point and Sanis Village Babtist Church Pastor Nchumbemo Kithan graced the programme.

 


WDLSA on July 27 held another legal awareness campaign for women and youths on Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act 2005 and training on paper Bags/Gift bags.

 


Advocate Shanchobeni P Lotha, Project Assistant, WDLSA spoke on rights and privileges and various support systems under Domestic Violence Act. The PA also highlighted that the day's event was an activity towards NALSA Poverty alleviation schemes and for a plastic free zone campaign in our state calling all to be asset to oneself as well as to the society. 

 


Master trainers Daisy Tungoe Para legal Volunteer and Athungbeni Para Legal Volunteer WDLSA trained youth and women in making paper bags/container where they stressed that through such skill based activities one can earn minimum income and contribute towards a plastic free society. Vandeno, Vice President and Chumjano, Finance Secretary GA/Project Yankho Eloe Ekhung delivered welcome address and vote of thanks.
