Measles-Rubella campaign to expand awareness amongst public

Dimapur, July 7 (MExN): District Task Force Committee held a meeting on Measles-Rubella vaccination campaign on July 6 at DC office conference Hall, Dimapur.  

DIPR in a report stated that chairing the meeting, ADC, Dimapur, Albert Ezung welcomed the members and spoke briefly on the importance of MR campaign in India and how it is helping the populated country like India since its inception. He requested and urged the department to identify those areas where majority of the great population resides and chalk out strategy and give constant monitoring.  

Dr. Abhishek from World Health Organisation said the aim of MR campaign is to eliminate measles and control Rubella. “To execute the MR campaign, we need planning since most of us are aware of the measles but the general public are yet to sensitize. Keep this concern in mind the MR campaign was launched to expand awareness,” he added.  

He also highlighted the objectives, plans and importance of MR campaign through Power Point presentation and said that Measles to be eliminated and Rubella to be control by 2020. Rubella syndrome causes in abortion, still born and serious birth defects. The complications of rubella and measles are one of the leading causes of death among young children even though vaccine is available, he said.  

DR. Rebecca, DIO, stated the role and responsibilities of various departments in MR vaccination campaign since the medical department alone is not possible to achieve its desired results. She highlighted the state level activities, schools and mass education, how teachers to be part of vaccination team for schools and ensuring quality vaccination and how to organize rallies. Women and child development to support and organize mothers’ meeting, sensitize community before the campaign in their respective areas and involving of mass media in MR campaign. The Task is huge as such support from all departments is needed for effective implementation since the coverage target is 100%, she said.  

All the members also shared their ideas, concerns and suggestions. The MR campaign which aims to build immunity for both MR diseases in Nagaland will start in October 2018.
