Mechanical dept registers noteworthy achievements: NFR

Guwahati, February 15 (MExN): The mechanical department of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has registered noteworthy achievements towards freight operation for efficiency and safety in 2022-23 up to December last, an official release informed today.

The wagon ineffective up to December, 2022 was all time low with 2.4% against the previous year's performance of 3.4% during the same period resulting in availability of wagons for traffic purpose, it said.

This quantum jump could be achieved by re-distribution of workforce to have additional batches at the examination points as well as to maximise the repairs during the examination, added the release issued by ther NFR CPRO.

These achievements have been made possible by the deliberate, sustained and concerned efforts of NFR workforce, it said.

Further, there was Routine Overhauling (ROH) of 3043 wagons up to December, 2022 against the previous year's figure of 2901.

Presently, NFR has geared up its infrastructure to carry out ROH on all the arriving freight wagons within the Railway, the release said.

As on December, 2022, NFR was maintaining 29 closed circuit rakes as compared to 14 rakes in December, 2021. The increased number of closed circuit rakes has resulted into improved availability of wagons for traffic loading, it maintained.

In addition, the average yard examination time of the freight rakes for issuance of Brake Power Certificate up to December, 2022 was 3:47 hours as compared to 4:16 hours during the same period of previous year.

The NFR also noted that it is fully geared up to take up the challenges of additional traffic coming to zone and has taken initiative to set up infrastructure requirement for projected demands as envisaged in the National Rail Plan to develop capacity by 2030.
