Mechanised garbage collection system in Duncan Basti

Dimapur, June 18 (MExN): The garbage collection system at Duncan Basti was mechanised on June 18 with the introduction of a 3-wheeled tempo. Earlier, carts were being used to do the job with residents dropping household waste in designated points in the locality, which were then collected manually using carts.

According to the Duncan Women Union (DWU), the tempo was specially renovated for the purpose and cost Rs. 2,72,779. Expressing hope that other localities would also emulate the act, the DWU said that a fee of Rs. 50 will be charged from residents for using the service and the resultant amount used for its maintenance. Maintaining that such projects need the support of the public, the DWU further urged the churches can be a great platform to convey to people the importance of cleanliness.
