Media enters partner with NGOs on HIV/AIDS

Kohima, June 24 (MExN): The local media fraternity has entered into a partnership with NGOs working in the field of HIV/AIDS. This was arrived at the one day consultation on “Reducing Drug Demand for HIV Prevention” held at Hotel Japfu, Kohima.
The House strongly stressed on the need of having constant interaction on issues between the media and NGOs as part of a consistent partnership in dealing with HIV/AIDS in the state.

It also resolved to organize sensitization workshops for media personnel in the state. The need to institute information centres for easy access to information related to HIV/AIDS, was also strongly felt by the participants. Noticing the shortage of rehabilitation centres in the state, Secretary, Social Security & Welfare DK Bhalla asked the concern NGOs working in the field to submit proposals at the earliest so that it could be sent to the Government of India for necessary action and consideration.

Abu Mere from RRTC said that there are only 5 rehab centres in the state, funded by Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. He lamented that the government was not doing enough justice and asked for more such centres in Nagaland.
