Media interaction prog between Myanmar & India ends with seven recommendations

Newmai News Network Imphal | November 28   The two-day Inter Regional Media Interaction Programme between Myanmar and India which started yesterday at Sangai Hall, Hotel Imphal here culminated today with seven recommendations. Sponsored by Manipur Tourism, it was organised by Department of Information & Public Relations, Manipur in collaboration with the State Level Committee for Act East Policy in Manipur.   The seven recommendations which were read out by the General Secretary, Editors Guild of India Prakash Dubey in the valedictory function are – stronger friendship between India and Myanmar and inter-regional media interaction programme’s support in implementing the Act East Policy of India Government; more understanding and improved relationship between the two countries; visa free regime particularly for media fraternity of these countries; to conduct more media exchange programmes in future; better connectivity in terms of road, railways, air and maritime communication i.e., better transport facilities between Myanmar and India; measures to ensure free flow of news, if possible News Agency, Social Media like WhatsApp etc.; and tourist circuit between the two counties.   Earlier in the day, Dr. A Ibomcha Sharma, news editor, AIR Imphal spoke as resource person on the topic ‘Media’s Role in Promoting India’s Act East Policy’. He suggested for joint media venture between the media personnel of India and Asian nations, war against drug and psychotropic substances. As per 2011 Census records, he said, Manipur holds the record for having the most AIR listeners in the country. Act East Policy came into existence in the year 1981 as Look East Policy. With the coming of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Government in the centre, it was rechristened as Act East Policy in 2014 and marching ahead towards speed, smart and skill development.   In another session (V-Session), Member Myanmar Press Council, Dr. Zaw Than was the moderator on the topic ‘Capacity Building of Media Personnel in Myanmar and India’.   In another session (VI-Session) with Prakash Dubey as the moderator on the topic ‘Media’s Role in Promoting Connectivity and Trade between Myanmar and India’, Rupachandra Yumnam, Secretary General, Editors’ Guild Manipur stated that in order to improve trade and economic bilateral ties between Myanmar and India, interaction and effective communication between media personnel of the two countries is of utmost importance.   Delegates from Myanmar, Press Council of India, Editors’ Guild of India, students from Mass Communication Department, Manipur University and State Institute of Journalism, DIPR, media fraternity of the State took part in the 2-day event.
