Kohima, May 1 (MExN): With the implementation of the Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) Scheme in the whole district of Nagaland and  in order to facilitate medical care services for the ESI beneficiaries, the department of Labour has made medical arrangements with the Health & Family Welfare Department for providing Medical Services through PHCs/CHCs/District Hospitals to the Insured Persons (IPs) and their dependants under the Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) Scheme in the newly implemented (nine)districts of the State (i.e Mon, Tuensang, Noklak, Shamator, Longleng,Kiphire, Phek, Meluri and Peren).

The medical arrangement was made to ensure ESI beneficiaries avail primary and secondary health care services through the identified PHCs/CHCs/District Hospitals.

The Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) Scheme administered by the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation under the Ministry of Labour and Employment is an integrated measure of Social Insurance designed to accomplish the task of protecting ‘employees’ against the impact of incidences of sickness, maternity, disablement and death due to employment injury and to provide medical care to insured persons and their families. Apart from medical care the scheme also provides cash benefits to the Insured Person (IP).

The ESI Scheme applies to employees in factories and other establishments viz. Road  Transport, Hotels, Restaurants, Cinemas, Newspaper, Shops and Private Medical/Educational Institutions wherein 10 or more persons are employed and drawing wages upto Rs. 21,000/- a month. The employers/proprietors of coverable establishments are therefore mandatory to register their establishments and their workers/employees within the ambit of ESI Scheme.
