Kohima, November 25 (MExN): A two-day refresher training for Medical Officers was organised by the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP), Directorate of Health and Family Welfare at DUDA Guest house, Kohima from November 21 to 22.
Around 30 Medical Officers from all the 11 districts participated in the training. Dr. LA Singh, Senior Regional Director Imphal, Dr. Neisakho Kere, Deputy Director (NVBDCP), Atu Longkumer, Senior Entomologist, NVBDCP and Imsubenla Ozukum, PH Consultant, NVBDCP were the resource persons.
On the first day, a presentation on ‘Overview of Malaria Elimination Plan’ was made by Dr. Kevichusa Medikhru, State Programme Officer, NVBDCP. He deliberated on the milestones and targets set for malaria elimination in the state by 2030 and also presented an overview of vector borne disease situation in the state over the past 5 years. Dr. Kevichusa further informed of a task force in the state and the districts and the declaration of malaria as a notifiable disease. He expressed hope that with the concerted efforts of all Nagaland can become the first state in North East to eliminate malaria.
Over the two days, the MOs were trained on malaria epidemiology, diagnosis and treatment, case management, surveillance on malaria, reporting of malaria, dengue and JE, integrated vector management, outbreak investigation with special reference to vector borne diseases, IEC/BCC on malaria and other vector borne diseases and the involvement of private and non formal sector.
