‘Medical Surgeons should be guided by Principal of Humanity’

DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 17 (MExN): As Science and Technology keep progressing with higher objectives in the medical field; it should be guided by ‘Principal of Humanity’, Dr. T. M Lotha passed the message across to a group of medical surgeons gathered from all across the country. The fifth Annual Conference of the Northeast Chapter of Indian Association of Paediatric Surgeons was held on November 17 at the Conference hall, Zion Hospital and Research Centre, Dimapur. Minister of Health and family Welfare and Excise Dr. T. M Lotha graced the occasion as the chief guest. In the inaugural speech, Dr. T. M Lotha said that people cannot excess good medical aid as medical surgeons have been so much exploited and commercialized. 

Sharing his experience in the medical field the Chief Guest said that the greatest moment for a doctor is seeing his patient being healed and saying ‘thank you’, therefore he asserted, “Medical Surgeons should be for service of humanity and guided as such and should be service oriented and not money oriented.” 

In his speech he shared his concern over the spread of HIV/AIDS and called upon the Doctors to especially emphasize on the Mother to Child infection of this disease. He also appreciated the department of Surgery, ZHRC for organizing and hosting such a highly specialized conference in the state.

Dr. R Kikon Organising Secretary mentioned in the Conference Souvenir that the main theme of the Conference will be to update the general surgeons and the Paediatric Surgeons of the North East region on recent advances in the surgical management of challenging Paediatric Surgical condition by renowned specialist in the field. 

Earlier in the inaugural function, Immediate Past President IAPS Prof. B. Mukhopadhyay launched the official NE-IAPS website www.neiaps.com on the occasion. The welcome address was given by Organising Secretary Dr. R Kikon and the vote of thanks by Secretary NE-IAPS Dr. Moji Jini.

In the scientific session the guest lecturers including Prof S. K Mitra, Prof Jacob Chacko, Prof. B. Mukhopadhyay Prof. N.C Bhattacharyya and others from Guwahati, Manipur and Dibrugarh deliberated on Paediatric oriented topic.  
In Nagaland ZHRC is the only medical centre with Paediatric Surgery Department. Pediatric Surgery is a super-specialty which deals with surgical problems of pediatric patients. It is an age related medical science and extends from the day of birth to adolescence.

NE-IAPS is the only platform the Paediatric Surgeons of North East India. The inaugural session of this association was held at Guwahati on October 17 and 18, 2003.0rganising Secretary was Dr. J. K Goswami. Prof D. K Mitra, then HOD of Paediatric Surgery, AIIMS and Dr S. Agarwala was the visiting faculties. Second conference was organised in Dibrugarh on October 4 and 5, 2004.0rganising Secretary was Dr Hemonta Dutta. Prof DKGupta, Dr Srinivas M, from AIIMS, New Delhi and Dr B Mukhopadhayay from Kolkata were the visiting faculties. Third conference was organised at Guwahati with the help of DownTown Hospital on November 26, 2005. Organising Secretary was Dr R Raybarua. Dr V Bhatnagar from AIIMS, New Delhi and Prof K.L.N Rao from PGI&RC, Chandigarh were the visiting dignitaries.
