‘Medico’, one of the pioneer wholesale pharmaceuticals in the commercial hub Dimapur observed its 36th anniversary here at Lions Club on Tuesday, with president of Nagaland Medicine Dealers’ Association, Ato Yepthomi, as the chief guest.
The chief guest in his address lauded the proprietor of Medico, Basu Damani and his family for their valuable contribution in health care and other humanitarian services for past four decades.
The NMDA president said the Damani family was one among the business families in Dimapur who “sacrificed everything to render selfless services to the people.”
Ato recalled the hard times the business communities underwent in the 80’s, 90’s and early part of 2000 due to numerous taxations from Naga political groups.
He said unable to bear the extreme harassment, most of the business families left Dimapur never to come back.
“But the Damani family had the courage to stay back and continued to serve the people. The commitment, dedication, vision and courage of the Damanis is a lesson for all of us”, he commended.
Basu Damani in his introductory note said the occasion was not only to commemorate the anniversary of Medico pharmaceuticals but also a welcome break for the Medico family and employees as a whole.
He said his firms including Medico was employing more than 150 educated unemployed youths, mostly Nagas, and assured to give more employment opportunities to Naga youths in the coming days. He also thanked all pharmacy and drug houses and hospitals for extending cooperation to Medico.
