Meetei communities in Dimapur hold candle light vigil for Myanmar

Dimapur, March 11 (MExN): The Dimapur Meetei Council and Chümoukedima Meetei Apunba Lup held a joint mass candle light vigil programme at Meetei Mandop, Manipuri Colony and marched till Tiniali Junction, Chatteswary Colony in Dimapur on March 10.

The programme was held to express solidarity with the Meeteis in particular and all innocent civilians living in Myanmar during the prevailing turmoil in the country, Prem Thongbam, Media Secretary and Treasurer of the Dimapur Meetei Council informed in a press release on Thursday.

“We stand with the people of Myanmar and we will continue to support the peoples' aspirations for the restoration of peace in Myanmar,” the release also stated.

The Meetei communities in Dimapur appealed for full humanitarian access to support the most vulnerable civilians and protestors in Myanmar.

“We also appeal to the various governments of India especially the bordering states government such as Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur and Mizoram to raise voice and shun violence,” the release added.

Further, the communities offered condolences for the loss of precious lives and appealed the military and police in Myanmar “to exercise utmost restraint and respect human rights and international law.”
