Meeting focuses on preventing wildfires at Dzukou and Japfü

Kohima, January 30 (DIPR): A meeting to discuss the issues regarding wild fire at Japfü and Dzukou was held on January 29 at the DC’s conference hall, Kohima, which was attended by district administration, various departments, NGOs, youth and student bodies under the chairmanship of DC Ruovilatuo Mor.   Southern Angami Public Organisation (SAPO) and Southern Angami Youth Organisation (SAYO) highlighted that most of the hunting occurs in the months of January and February and most of the people responsible for wildfire are those who come for picnics and hiking in the area. The DC suggested that during the period, there should be entry pass not only for Dzukou but also for places like Viswema, Khuzama, Jakhama, Kigwema, Phesama.

  Representative from the Defence gave a presentation of some photographs of wild fire and jungle burning at Japfü and Dzukou during the months of January and February 2014 and highlighted that awareness should be given to the villages to prevent wild fire.   Home Guards Department suggested that wild fire prevention campaign be carried out by the government where all NGOs, student bodies, village councils and churches can be involved to give various guidelines and that signboards can be put by in the areas.   SDO (Civil) Kohima Samuel Paul stressed on funding for prevention of wild fire and voluntary works by student bodies. He advised that volunteers be provided badge tags or caps and also trained in guidelines.   The DFO was given the responsibility to organise awareness camps in the area.
