Kiphire, February 20 (MExN): District Task Force meeting on second round of Intensive Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) and National De-worming Day (NDD) was held on February 19 at the office of SDO (Civil), Kiphire.   The meeting, chaired by Lankonsen Tsanglao, SDO (Civil), was attended by Dr. Rebecca Y Sema (DPO, RCH-UIP), Dr. Khelito (DTO), L. Kipitong Sangtam (SIS), M. Yangse (Supervisor SW), and Imnasenla Pongener (Media Officer, NHM).   A press release from Imnasenla Pongener informed that Dr. Rebecca gave an overview of IPPI and NDD. The second round of IPPI will be conducted from February 21-23; the first day will focus on administering polio drops to 0-5 year olds through booth activities and the other two days on house to house visits by the medical team.
As part of NDD, Albendazole tablets will be administered to all children of 1-19 years where the schools will play a major role for distribution to 5-19 year olds and anganwadi workers to 1-4 year olds.   Performance review on IPPI 1st round was also done. The first round saw an achievement of 90% target which was higher than the previous year. 9,335 children were immunized and 10,480 houses visits were made. Dr. Rebecca said, “Unfortunately, due to the current state of disturbance in the district, there may be decrease in house to house visits. However, we will try our best to cover as many houses as possible.”   She further informed that nurses have been assigned to carry out the programme according to location for free movement. “For Pungro block, we will need maximum help from other departments like Education and Social Welfare for smooth distribution of polio drops as well as Albendazole tablets,” she added.   Meanwhile, Lankonsen assured that the administration will aid the medical team by providing security and requested all community elders, police and other departments to extend full support to carry out the programme with ease.
