Meeting reviews progress of Nagaland Forest Management Project activities

Kohima, July 24 (MExN): The Nagaland Forest Management Project (NFMP), an externally project funded by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and implemented by the Department of Environment Forests and Climate Change (DEFCC) Nagaland had a review meeting on July 24 at the Office of the Project Management Unit, Forest Office Complex, Kohima to review the progress of the project activities in presence of the Minister CM Chang and L. Kire IFS, Addl Chief Secretary to Chief Minister, DEFCC and DUDA.

The NFMP Project is for a period of 10 years and on March 31, 2019, the project has completed its second year preparatory phase. From April 1, 2019 the Implementation phase has started, informed a press release issued by Lhinghoikim Touthang, IFS, Deputy Project Director. 

The meeting was attended by the members of the Project Management Unit (PMU), all the eleven Divisional Management Unit (DMU) heads. The Chief Project Director Dharmendra Prakash IFS, PCCF gave a brief overview of the project.

The three Project Directors (PD) namely PD (Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation) Vedpal Singh IFS, APCCF, PD (Human resource development, Research and Public Relations) Supongnukshi IFS, CCF and PD (Administration, Finance and Procurement) Meyipokyim Aier IFS, gave a PowerPoint presentation in relation to the progress made in their respective divisions.

The DMU heads gave a progress report of the works done at the field level. All districts had obtained the Prior Informed consent (PIC) from the villages that are selected for implementation of the project. DMUs has also conducted awareness and sensitisation programme at the selected villages for proper implementation of the project work, started eco- friendly and plastic free nurseries by using alternatives such as bamboo and cloth bags at the JFMC nurseries for the Forestry Intervention Models. DMU heads also reported that most of the Offices and Quarters constructed under the project are almost complete.

L. Kire in his remarks shared his experience and gave valuable inputs on how the project can better perform. Minister Chang in his short speech appreciated about the progress made at the level of Divisional management units in his short speech. 

The PCCF & HoFF and Chairman of NFMPS, Rajat Pal IFS in his remarks spoke words of encouragement to all the officers of the Department. 

The review meeting was chaired by the Chief project Director while Dr. Kenie IFS CF (STC) welcomed the members before the state of the meeting and Lhinghoikim Touthang, IFS, Deputy Project Director proposed the vote of thanks.
