Meghalaya: Assaulted activist discharged from NEIGRIHMS

Newmai News Network Shillong | December 10   Having spent over a month undergoing treatment at the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Science (NEIGRIHMS) in Shillong after being assaulted in East Jaintia Hills (EJH) district, Agnes Kharshiing, the president of the Civil Society Women’s Organization (CSWO) was finally discharged from the super specialty hospital on Monday.   She has however been asked to attend follow up treatment in the hospital’s Out Patient Department of Neurosurgery, Psychiatry and orthopedics.   In this regard, the hospital’s Public Relations Officer (PRO) Dr KK Pandita informed that since the patient’s condition has gradually improved significantly, it was decided to discharge her today with further home medication and medical advice.   The PRO said that Anges had also undergone fixation of right olecranon fracture (CRIF with CCS) under General anaesthesia on November 28. Agnes and her aide Amita Sangma were admitted in the super specialty hospital with multiple head injuries after they were brutally attacked by a group of suspected coal mafia in Tuber Sohshrieh village in East Jaintia Hills district, just after taking pictures of coal laden trucks on November 8.   Amita was discharged on November 30. “Agnes has been discharged today at around 3.45 pm. She will be in her younger brother's house in Shillong for the moment till further assessment and advice from NEIGRIHMS,” Agnes’s brother John F Kharshiing said.   He also expressed the immediate family members’ gratitude to God, for his blessings and care in the miraculous recovery of Agnes Kharshiing, and Amita Sangma, while appreciating the untiring efforts of the Director, the Medical Superintendent, Heads of Department, Doctors and staff of NEIGRIHMS besides doctors and staff of Ialong Civil Hospital Jowai, Medical Team of I08 Ambulatory services.
