Chümoukedima, April 8 (MExN): Meghalaya registered a narrow three-wicket win over Nagaland, while Sikkim secured a dominant eight-wicket victory against Arunachal Pradesh in the 4th NECDC Inter-State Friendship Cup Men’s U-19 tournament on Wednesday.
At the Nagaland Cricket Stadium, Meghalaya chased down a target of 168 to finish at 170 for seven in 29.4 overs in a closely fought match. Angkit Tamang anchored the innings with a steady 42 off 67 balls.
Earlier, Nagaland were bowled out for 167 in 39.5 overs, with Amongti Lkr and Shyerinlo scoring 36 runs each. Meghalaya’s Mewankitbok Kharpuri starred with the ball, claiming 5 for 33 in 10 overs, supported by Benedict J Makdoh (2/31). For Nagaland, Yashimeren Jamir (2/40) and Amongti Lkr (2/29) put up a strong fight. Meghalaya, who elected to field, clinched the match in the final stages.
Kharpuri was named Player of the Match.
Sikkim outplays Arunachal Pradesh
In the second match at Sovima Cricket Ground, Sikkim outplayed Arunachal Pradesh by eight wickets, chasing down 119 in just 17.1 overs.
Arunachal Pradesh, who opted to bat, were bowled out for 118 in 26.3 overs, with Nabam Nathan top-scoring with 31 off 23 balls. Sikkim’s bowling was led by Parvin Kuikel, who took 4 for 26 in 6.3 overs.
In reply, Sikkim rode on an unbeaten 51 off 41 balls by Andan Alam to reach 124 for two comfortably. Ngurang Lana and Nabam Gania picked up a wicket each for Arunachal Pradesh. Alam was adjudged Player of the Match.
The tournament now heads into the semi-finals on April 9, with Manipur set to face Sikkim at Nagaland Cricket Stadium, while Mizoram will take on Meghalaya at Sovima Cricket Ground.
