Meghalaya gets 84 crore for water supply schemes

The Government of Meghalaya has got a sanction of Rs 84 crore under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund 2019-20 funded by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD).

 

In this regard, the state’s Public Health Engineering (PHE), Minister Samlin Malngiang informed on Wednesday that the department is waiting for the Administrative Approval of the scheme that is now in the political department of the state before the tender is floated for the same.

 

Informing that in 2018-19 the scheme received was Rs 80 crore, he said that this year the scheme has been earmarked district wise and divided into 19 schemes in villages and divisions that have less work and are in urgent need of water supply.

 

“We have looked carefully that the implementation of the scheme is not biased and goes to every division and village that is in need of drinking water supply,” he said adding that the department has tried to cover as many villages as possible from this very limited scheme of Rs 84 crore based on the records and proposal the department has received from various political representatives.

 

Informing that the distribution of the scheme varies from location to location depending on the urgency of the need of water supply and size of the area, he said some of the locations are getting Rs 2 to 3 crores while some are getting up to Rs 10 crores including in Garo Hills, Amlarem -Jaintia Hills, etc.

 

The Minister also said that the state government has received funds of over Rs 71 crore of the year 2018-19 under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) which is the Central Government’s assistance to states for rural water supply and to provide Functional Household Tap Connection (FHTC) to every rural household by 2024.
