Meghalaya government cancels order permitting wedding receptions

The State government of Meghalaya on Wednesday decided to suspend its earlier order to allow wedding receptions in two districts of the State.

 

Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong also informed that as per the order, other kinds of receptions too will not be allowed.

 

Tynsong also said that such receptions in East Khasi Hills and Ri-Bhoi district will not be allowed from Wednesday night till further orders.


 “However, the solemnisation of weddings will go on,” Tynsong said.

 

He appealed to the people to bear with the government even as he added that many applications are pending with the district administration.

 

“We have taken this decision for the safety of the public,” the Deputy Chief Minister added.

 

It may be mentioned that a wedding ceremony held at Greenwood Resort, Khanapara on June 27 while another reception was held on July 2 at Lower Lachaumiere recently. These two events which were held by the same party has led to ten people contracting COVID-19 where two are index cases and the other eight are high risk contacts of those who had attended the wedding party.
