In a big relief to the people living in the villages along the Indo-Bangladesh border areas of Mawsynram, the Government of Meghalaya has sanctioned Rs 1, 01, 20,500 for the construction of the ring well projects under Mawsynram Sub-Division.

The MLA of Mawsynram, Himalaya Muktan Shangpliang, while expressing his gratitude to the Government and particularly to Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma for the sanction, said that the people living in the villages along the Indo-Bangladesh border in Mawsynram do not have drinking water facilities.

“The people living here are dependent on muddy water from the ponds. This sanction will provide safe and good drinking water all along the border villages,” he said.

Stating that he had followed up on the matter with the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department and raised the issue in the Assembly session in 2018, he said, “I had raised this issue again in the just concluded Assembly session where I had expressed concern over the delay to approve the project and the Chief Minister had assured immediate sanction.”

“I am very thankful to the Chief Minister for his sincere commitment made on the floor of the House for immediate sanction of the project which was followed by this prompt action which is highly appreciated,” Shangpliang said.
