“Meghdoot” is an app developed by the expert from the India Meteorological Department and Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, ICRISAT and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research to provide location, and crop and livestock-specific weather-based agro advisories to farmers in local languages.
The app provides forecast on temperature, rainfall, relative humidity, cloud cover wind speed and direction, which plays critical roles in agricultural operations and advisories to the farmers. The information is updated twice a week on Tuesday and Friday along with the agro-advisories on crop and livestock. The information provided in the app will help the farmers to deal with the climate variability and thereby improve their decision making on crop and livestock. The timely access of weather based agro-advisories can act as special kind of input to the farmers and can subsequently make an impact on the agriculture and livelihood of the farmers.
The app can be downloaded from the Google play store (Android users) and App Center (IOS users). The users will have to register with their name, mobile number, state and district so that they can get area specific information. The app is also integrated with whatsApp and facebook, which enable to share the advisories among farmers.
