Dimapur, July 4 (MExN): Reacting to the article ‘On Memei Hoho reign of terror’ published in some local dailies, L. Kaodang, Co-Convener, Shepoumaramth Rights Watchdog Senapati stated, “The Memei Hoho is a political body, but to protect its identity, it joined in the process of the last Feb. 8, 2007 election and won the 48 Mao Assembly Constituency. But what it profits if the tribe is made to divide socially.”
“The present Memei Hoho controversy seems to have been kept in suspense for the last 4 months or so is most serious and seems the organization is at the verge of defunction. But above all, if some one file a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) on the imposition of Rs. 1000/- per voter who had not voted for the Memei sponsored candidate(s) in the last Feb 8, 2007 Manipur Assembly election in the Indian Law Court, as the election were held under the Indian Election System, the Hoho will be dragged in legal tangle which will be most unfortunate. Like it or not the action of Memei Hoho is unbecoming of civil body and nothing short of mafia gangs terrorizing the people” Kaodang stated in the press statement.
While asserting that this might also be applied to the Naga political movement and the ensuing Nagaland Assembly elections, he questioned “What if the anti-Naga political parties like the congress party dominated by Nehru blood families bulldozed to power in Nagaland and Manipur who are against the sixty years of Nagas struggle with blood and sweat, just to remain in power.”
He pointed out that some people may react as to “why the Memei Hoho issue be not confined to the Memei Community” but he added that news and views are projected so that, people argue, debate and learn to have a better society.
While pointing out that various qualities that a social leader should have, he stated that Constructive criticism directly or indirectly should not be adopted as a sell out and treat as a vendetta, if the points are justified.
