Memorial held for Naga soldier killed in combat

Soldiers of the 164 Infantry Battalion (Naga) Territorial Army accord guard of honour to ‘sepoy’ Kheto Sumi’s mortal remains at the Dimapur Airport on Sunday, August 7.
 
DIMAPUR, AUGUST 7 (MExN): A Naga serviceman of the 1st Naga Regiment was killed in action on August 4 last. According to Army sources ‘sepoy’ Kheto Sumi was killed during an encounter with armed militants in the Uri sector of Jammu & Kashmir on the intervening night of August 3 and 4. He hailed from Homeland village under Niuland sub-division, Dimapur.
The mortal remains of ‘sepoy’ Sumi landed at the Dimapur Airport on Sunday, August 7 escorted by fellow soldiers of his unit. State government officials from the district administration, station commander of the 3 Corps, Rangapahar, Brigadier B. Chatterjee and personnel of the 164 Infantry Battalion (Naga) Territorial Army received the casket at the airport where a brief memorial service was conducted complete with military honours. It was then escorted to the deceased soldier’s native village for the last rites.  
He is survived by three sisters and two brothers and mother. He was the sole bread winner of the family after the untimely demise of his father late Hoshe Sumi. It was the third year for ‘sepoy’ Sumi in the service of the armed forces before his death in combat. He was enlisted in the Army on March 2008.
