Phek, May 29 (MExN): Phek district on May 28 observed Menstrual Hygiene Day at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Avasiya Vidhalaya Government Residential Hostel in Phek Town.

According to an official update, the observance was held under the theme “Together for a Period Friendly India.”

The programme was organised with the objective of creating awareness that menstruation is a natural biological process and should not be a cause for stigma or discrimination.

Nuvetalu Thira, ICTC Counsellor, Phek, speaking as the resource person, highlighted that Menstrual Hygiene Day is observed annually on May 28 to raise awareness about menstruation, break myths and stigma, and promote menstrual health and hygiene.

She also spoke on the importance of menstrual hygiene, stating that it helps prevent infections, promotes health and dignity, and supports confidence and well-being.

Thira further shared key menstrual hygiene practices, including washing hands before and after changing sanitary pads, maintaining personal hygiene, and using clean and safe menstrual products.

To mark the occasion, sanitary pads were distributed to all adolescent girls attending the programme.
