The launching programme of Meri Maati Mera Desh was held at Govt. Primary School Arjuma, Mokokchung Village, Ongpangkong (North) Block on August 12.
The Union government has launched the ‘Meri Maati Mera Desh’ campaign as part of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ celebration of India’s 75 years of Independence. The initiative aims to showcase India's progress and potential in various fields, as well as to inspire and empower the youth to contribute towards nation-building.
Keynote address was delivered by Divisional Forest Officer, Dr Sentitula IFS. A Short speech was delivered by Wapang Kichu, Village Council Chairman, Mokokchung Village.
Delivering a short speech, Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung, Thsuvisie Phoji, thanked all the participants for coming forward to be a part of the programme with much enthusiasm as a good citizen of India. He said Mokokchung District have produced many brave hearts who have laid down their lives for the nation. The DC said that it was an honour to felicitate the heroes on the occasion.
As laid by the union government, five activities marked the Mera Maati Mera Desh campaign which included the dedication of Shilaphalakam, Pledge 'Paanch Pran,' holding Mitti, plantation of 75 saplings, Veeron ka Vandhaan and Hoisting of National Flag.
Dedication of Shilaphalakam, a memorial plaque was installed in Arjuma GPS, Mokokchung village, dedicated to the true sons of the soil. Secondly, the felicitation of Veeron ka Vandan was done, where a certificate was awarded to Colonel Imliakum Keitzar in recognition of his contribution to the nation's freedom and security, gratitude and respect for their service.
It is notable to mention that Imliakum Keitzar was conferred the Shaurya Chakra' when he was a Major in the Indian Army. He presently holds the rank of Colonel. The award was presented to his parents as he could not attend in person.
This was followed by Panch Pran Pledge with Mitti. The pledge was led by Chumalo Humtsoe, ADC Mokokchung.
Hoisting of National Flag and singing of National Anthem followed after which the ceremonial plantation of saplings was held.
The campaign at the rural level will culminate by August 15 and the same will be held in the Urban level. The Mera Maati Mera Desh Campaign will culminate on August 30 2023.
