Merentoshi encourages villages to maintain good relations with Assam

Mokokchung, February 4 (MExN): Minister for Youth Resources & Sports, Merentoshi R Jamir today inaugurated the Moayimti Village gate here in the presence of Mokokchung Deputy Commissioner, SP and host of villagers. After the formal inauguration, a programme was held at Moayimti village football ground.

The minister, while highlighting the importance of village gates, maintained that village gate not only signifies the welcoming of visitors, but also signifies to those visiting the village that they are now entering the village and therefore must obey the rules and regulations set by the village.

Lauding the unity and cooperation among the villages in Tzurangkong range under Mokokchung, Merentoshi encouraged the villagers to exhibit unity even in the days to come. He also pointed out that Moayimti and other villages, by virtue of being located in the border areas, become the mirror of Naga people to the outside world. In this regard, he said whatever the border villages do, whether good or bad, reflects the Naga people living in other parts of the state. He therefore encouraged the villagers to maintain good friendly relations with neighbouring state of Assam, at the same time, asked them to invite the neighbours while celebrating traditional festivals.

The young minister also reminded the youths not to forget their culture but preserve their traditions. Otherwise, he said, they will lose their identity and forget their roots. Moayimti Village Council Chairman, M Supong delivered the welcome speech while Mokokchung DC Muroho Chotso exhorted the audience. The Moayimti Watsu (women) and Moayimti Putu Menden presented special songs in honor of the chief guest.
