Kohima, July 2 (MExN): To educate the public about the adverse effects of plastic bags on the environment, The Coming Generation- Leading the lead continues its campaign ‘Nagaland Says No To Plastic’ at Merhulietsa colony, Kohima June 30 along with the representatives from colony councils, church, and youth organization.
The cognizance session started with the welcome note by Thepfuvio Chairman of the colony and invoke god’s blessing by panchayat elder for successful implementation of the campaign.
TCG in a press release stated that plastics bags takes 500 to 1000 years to degrade, the de-toxins and other chemical pollutants released from them are a serious threat to be tackled. Plastics bags harm the environment in numerous ways. Once they enter into soil, it lowers soil fertility resulting reduce in farmer’s production.
Besides, after using plastic bags litter streets and block drainages, when burn they release toxic chemicals that contaminate the air. Hence, this campaign is to support and encourage statewide ban on the use of plastics, to have safer future of people and the planet earth.
“TCG encourages the use of biodegradable bags so that together we can leave a Green planet for the next generation,” it added.
The representatives from the colony council, church leader, youth organization were very responsive and committed to make their colony Free Plastic Colony.
