Kohima, June 8 (DIPR): The toppers and rank holders of HSSLC and HSLC of 2011 were felicitated with the Governor’s Award at Raj Bhavan on June 8 by His Excellency the Governor of Nagaland, Nikhil Kumar.
The felicitation programme was organised by the Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) where the top ten position holders of HSSLC in the three streams of Science, Arts and Commerce and the top ten position holders of HSLC were awarded Certificates of Merit along with cash awards during the function.
Speaking on the occasion, His Excellency the Governor of Nagaland expressed his pleasure in seeing young boys and girls doing well in their exams and said that their performances at the formative stage foretells their success in future careers ahead of them. The Governor was happy to observe the confidence levels of the toppers, some aiming to become Doctors, Politicians etc. He stated that the traits being exhibited by the young people reflected the standards of education and character building of our educational system. The Governor expressed his desire to hear about the progress of these young people in the courses of their future studies and careers that they embark upon in their life and said that the Raj Bhavan is only inspiring the students through this felicitation and awards. His Excellency hopes the felicitation function would be grander in the years to come to befittingly encourage the students. He concluded with his blessings to the toppers and said ‘set your goal, aim high, be consistent and succeed in life’.
After the main function the Governor Nikhil Kumar, interacted with all the awardees, parents, teachers and officials, and had photo sessions with them.
Earlier, a short speech was delivered by the Principal, Pranab Vidyapith Higher Secondary School, Dimapur. He congratulated the successful candidates and wished them with bright and prosperous future. He also said that award is praising someone for their noble deed and a recognition for the same. It encourages us to do good in future he added. He also expressed his gratitude to His Excellency the Governor of Nagaland and the Nagaland Board of School Education for encouraging the Institutions, besides the students towards education and development for the state.
The Secretary, Nagaland Board of School Education who also chaired the function while delivering her welcome address said that this felicitation programme at the Raj Bhavan began as an interaction opportunity with the then Governor of Nagaland Shyamal Dutta who encouraged the topper rank holders. Later, the cash awards to the meritorious students was initiated and included by the former Governor K. Sankaranarayanan and this felicitation is being continued. The Secretary NBSE thanked the Governor Nikhil Kumar for his concern over the students of Nagaland.
