Kohima, March 16 (MExN): An inter-school mathematics seminar in continuation of the National Mathematics Day celebration 2023 under the theme ‘Mathematics for Everyone’ was held at the conference hall of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Kohima on March 15.
The seminar cum competition witnessed the participants presenting their research, mathematical discoveries, and innovative solutions to real-world problems and most importantly, signifying the colossal importance of mathematics. The presentations were judged based on three criteria which were quality, clarity and the effective use of their visuals, a press release stated.
The event saw participation from 11 schools from Kohima namely Little Flower Hr Sec School, Ministers’ Hill Baptist Hr Sec School, Mezhür Hr Sec School, Don Bosco Hr Sec School, Baptist High Hr Sec School, Khedi Baptist Hr Sec School, Mount Hermon Hr Sec School, Christ King Hr Sec School, Vinyüzo H Hr Sec School, Northfield Hr Sec School and Bethel Hr Sec School.
The 1st prize was bagged by Keneicheno Rhütso of Mezhür HSS, 2nd by Vileto Yhoshu of Ministers’ Hill Baptist HSS and 3rd by Meba Aihun Lating of Bethel HSS.

The judges for the event were Lanukala I Jamir, Reader, Mathematics, SCERT, Vemuri Vero and Niko Krome of Nagaland Science & Technology Council (NASTEC).
Earlier, the resource person Teisovi Gerard Meyase, Professor of Department of Mathematics, KSCJ encouraged the participants to embrace the beauty of mathematics. He maintained that Math should be seen not as a tool but as a creative work of art form. He also emphasised on the fact that Mathematics is completely free of prejudice and that it unites all people.
The seminar was led by Tsote-ü Wetsah, Assistant teacher DBHSSK and commenced with a prayer by Fr PJ Varghese, SDB which was followed by a welcome speech from Fr TP James SDB, Principal, DBHSSK highlighting the significance of the event. The vote of thanks was delivered by Meziwang Zeliang, NASTEC.
The seminar was organized by Nagaland Science & Technology Council and hosted by Don Bosco HSS, Kohima. The event was catalyzed and supported by National Council for Science & Technology Communication (NCSTC), Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.
