The Ministry of Home Affairs has cleared the Nagaland state government’s request to borrow IPS officer T. John Longkumer of the Chhattisgarh Cadre to serve as the DGP of the Nagaland Police. The MHA issued the order on June 21, as per a letter to the Chief Secretary, Chhattisgarh.
Copies of the letter, sanctioning the inter-cadre deputation for a period of three years, were also endorsed to the Chief Secretary and the DGP, Nagaland.
While it was not expressly mentioned, as per the letter, the Chhattisgarh state government in all likelihood has given the nod of approval to the Nagaland state government’s request through the MHA.
It cited “approval of Competent Authority” for the inter-cadre deputation of Longkumer from Chhattisgarh to Nagaland for a period of three years on “administrative grounds.” “The Government of Chhattisgarh is, therefore, requested to relieve the officer immediately with the directions to report to Government of Nagaland. The date of relieving of the officer may be intimated to this Ministry for records,” it stated.
Calls made to the Nagaland Chief Secretary for comments remained unanswered.
