
Peren, May 11 (MExN): The Mhainamtsi Village Council today alleged that an “unrecognised village Keyevi B/Khehoi” has “totally destroyed Mhainamtsi Rubber plantation of 13 years old and pineapple farm, bamboos and tapioca farm etc cultivating since 1966.”
While vehemently condemning the “barbaric act,” Mhainamtsi Village Council, Chairman, Miucham in a press release said that on April 29, 2017, Dobashis and Jalukie Police intervened in the situation and verified the spot.
MVC said that “Soon after they left the spot, the Keyevi B/Khehoi Village continued their barbaric act by cutting down the rubber plantation which is directly an insult and challenge to the Government by taking the laws into their own hand.”
“We sincerely believe that the Government shall impart justice without any bias or malice towards none and also to give compensation for the damaged crops and plants,” the MVC added.
The Council also informed that the boundaries of their land allotted by land owner that is Lamhai Village are as follows: North-Tehai River to the border of Chumukedima; East-KJP Road; West-PWD Camp (Tehai River North and Nkwareu River, South) and South-Nkwareu River.
It also informed that with reference to the first eviction Letter No JUDL/38/76 Dt. 1/5/76 and No GEN/ADMN.6/76/dt 4/5/76 for eviction of unrecognized Keyevi B/Khehoi Village, second and third eviction 1983 and 1985 respectively. “Despite of serving eviction order by the Government defying the order again they re- established their Village,” it further alleged.
With the view to “help the investigation” the council mentioned that “on May 4, 2000 with the help of some uniform personnel and Keyevi B/Khehoi Villagers ambushed our Kheti’s goers with sophisticated weapons and killed six persons on the spot. Thereafter even on 6/5/2000 two of the Village workers, a Nepali family (Husband & Wife) were killed in a Farm House.”
Expressing dissatisfaction over “continuation of threat by the unrecognised Village” and the action of the Government, the Mhainamtsi Village Council warned that if the Government remain silent or failed to deal with the matter accordingly, “this time, we [are] prepared in spirit for final showdown in defending our traditional boundary, for which the Government shall [be] held responsible.”
