Care-Centre for Environment and Rural Poor (C-CERP), in collaboration with the Mhainamtsi Village Council, observed Wildlife Week on October 8.

PEREN, OCTOBER 10 (MExN): Under the theme “Human-Wildlife Coexistence,” the Care-Centre for Environment and Rural Poor (C-CERP), in collaboration with the Mhainamtsi Village Council, observed Wildlife Week on October 8 with a pledge board installation and community awareness activities at Mhainamtsi village, Peren district.
As part of the observance, a Pledge Board was installed along State Highway 29A (Jalukie–Peren Road). The pledge, unanimously framed by community leaders led by C-CERP, reads: “Ending Plastic Pollution and Caring for His Creation is Honouring God; therefore, let us act wisely and live responsibly for our future generation.” The dedication prayer for the Pledge Board was offered by Kihiading, Children Pastor of MBC.
The programme featured two sessions — an awareness talk and a cleanliness drive competition held at the Village Council Hall and along the stretch of the highway.
In the first session, C-CERP Director Liangsi Niumai and Mhainamtsi Village Council Chairman Ziudi Thou spoke on the importance of human-wildlife coexistence, environmental responsibility, and the vital role of youth in maintaining ecological balance, with biblical reflections drawn from Proverbs 12:10.
The second session involved a cleanliness drive conducted by students from LM Higher Secondary School and Mhainamtsi Village High School. The young participants were divided into three groups covering different directions along the State Highway and inter-village road.
According to organisers, the students displayed remarkable enthusiasm and commitment, collecting large quantities of waste discarded by passersby, which had accumulated near the Village Council Hall. The Village Council assured that the collected waste would be properly disposed of.
Prizes for the event were arranged by C-CERP and distributed by the Village Chairman to the winners and all participating students.
The programme began with a prayer by Iphiurai Pamei, while C-CERP staff member Lungzwayile Mpom moderated the session. The closing remark was delivered by Mosonio Chachei, followed by a closing prayer by Asing Haining, Deacon of MBC.
Altogether, around 80 participants attended the event, comprising mainly students, along with teachers, community leaders, women, and volunteers. The programme concluded successfully with a renewed community commitment towards wildlife protection and environment-friendly practices.
