Er. Mhasilhousie Nagi of Jotsoma village today emerged as the champion of the 55th Wrestling Meet 2018 of Western Angami Sports Association (WASA).
The 25-year old engineer who stands 5’10 tall and weighs 95 kg, defeated Kekhriezo Nagi of Sechii Zubza by winning both the bouts in the final to clinch the title.
Vizobeilie Punyü downed Seyiejalie Gwirie to claim the 3rd place.
Nagi received cash prize of Rs. 80,000 while the second, third and fourth placed winners received Rs, 60,000, Rs. 40,000 and Rs. 30,000 respectively.
Group C (Jotsoma) with 75 points emerged as the group champion.
Altogether, 72 wrestlers representing four groups competed in the Naga style wrestling.
18 wrestlers have been selected from this meet to represent WASA at the upcoming ASA wrestling meet scheduled for February 15 to 16.
The inaugural function was graced by Peteroko Zetsuvi, Deputy Director of Sports, Nagaland University, Kohima campus, Meriema as the chief guest.
Earlier, WASA president Kobou Mezhiinyii delivered welcome address in the inaugural function while WASA wrestling secretary Thinosetso Gwirie administered oath to the wrestlers.
Meanwhile, the freestyle wrestling in junior and senior category will be held on February 6.
Neivikuolie Khatsü, president Nagaland Wrestling Association will be the guest of honour at the closing ceremony on February 6.
