Phek, June 25 (MExN): DEF Phek today organized Mini Marathon against drug abuse and illicit traffic trafficking in commemoration of International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking which falls on June 26.

Around 150 participants consisting of college and school students, youths, elderly, uniform personnel from DEF, NAP, Fire Services, HGs and government employees took part in the marathon.

The marathon was flagged off by Vesupra Kezo, SP Phek. Public leaders, CSU officials, PTCSU and Colony leaders also joined the campaign.

In the brief function, SP Phek said drug addiction and illicit trafficking is happening in the state and district in particular which a matter of concern.

He urged all the NGOs, Churches, Student bodies and Govt agencies to come together to tackle the menace which is affecting the society.

He further said penalising and stigmatisation is not the answer but prevention, treatment and care can eliminate the menace.

Winners under various categories such as Open Category (male and female), School category (boys and girls) and consolation prizes were awarded with certificates. All the participants have taken, “The Drug Free Pledge.”

The function was chaired by Disani, SDPO Phek. Similar programme was also conducted in all Police Stations across the district.
