Kohima, June 7 (MExN): Minister of Urban Development, Municipal Affairs and Taxes, Metsubo Jamir made a detailed inspection of the ongoing works at Kohima Super Market. He was accompanied by Dr. Neikiesalie Kire, Advisor, Rural Development and REPA, Government of Nagaland, Deputy Commissioner Kohima, Addl. Secretary, UDD, CEO KMC and KCDL and officials of the Municipal Affairs, informed a press note received here.
Upon his inspection, the Minister stressed that the quality of work should not be compromised and should be of the highest standard which he hopes will serve as an example for other municipalities and towns to follow. Construction of well-planned out drainages around the Super Market area was also discussed to be taken up.
The Minister also visited the Office of the Kohima Municipal Council whereas meeting was held. The meeting was chaired by CEO KMC, Elizabeth Ngully. Advisor RD, Dr. Neikiesalie Kire, DC Kohima, KMC Staff, officials of the Municipal Affairs also attended the meeting.
Various issues pertaining to the development of Kohima city such as problems relating to traffic, parking, road, drainage, waste management, crematorium and cleanliness of the city were discussed. The Minister stressed that Kohima being the Capital needs to show the standards of town management. He encouraged the KMC to adopt a more proactive role in solving the problems faced by the public and also work to coordinate with the various departments of the State to ensure smooth implementation of all developmental programs. He also stressed on the co-operation from various stakeholders to make Kohima Town into a Model City for Nagaland.
Furthermore, the Minister offered his observation that opening of schools and offices and shops in Kohima at the same time of the day contribute to the traffic woes of the City. He suggested that changes in the opening time of shops could possibly improve the traffic congestion in the morning rush hour.
He directed the DC Kohima to arrange for a co-ordination meeting with the business establishment to discuss more on these issues.
