Minister T.R. Zeliang inaugurates Rio Community Hall

Chiechama | May 27 : Minister for Planning & Coordination, Veterinary & Animal Husbandry, Parliamentary Affairs and Evaluation T.R. Zeliang today inaugurated Rio Community Hall at Chiechama. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister challenged the people to have a broader approach and strengthen their planning system so as to move ahead with the competitive world. He also called upon the village council and VDB to frame a comprehensive plan for a period of five years for the welfare and progress of the village.
The minister said the present DAN government has “will power” for which a lot of developmental activities are taking place in the state under the chief ministership of Neiphiu Rio.
Stating that Chiechama lies on National Highway and also an airport coming up at Chiethu, he encouraged the villagers to develop road side amenities like restaurants, viewpoints etc to attract the tourists, which would in turn boost the economy of the village. He wanted to see the newly inaugurated community hall not simply a centre of social gathering but important decisions are emerged from here not only for Cheichama, northern Angamis but for Nagas as a whole.
The Planning Minister also lauded Chiechama villagers for its positive approach and hospitality and urged upon them to continue to uphold such quality. Touching on livestock production, he expressed his concern over the huge chunk of money being spent on import of meat from outside the state. He stated that the veterinary survey on import of meat reads at Rs. 300 crores annually but when the use of meat for purpose of weddings, feasts, birthday party, social gathering etc etc. are taken into account, the amount spent on import of livestock would touch Rs. 600 crore annually. Towards, this he called upon the villagers to go for large scale production of livestock and also take up other agricultural activities as they have land, fertile soil and good climate condition. Stating that “village economy is the economy of the state,” the minister called upon the people to boost their economy by taking up various income generation ventures and change their living standard.
The function was chaired by Thejao Vihienuo Rio while Kelhoupu Rio president Rio Clan Chiechama delivered welcome address. Keneingusa Rio, chairman, building committee stated that an amount of Rs. 45, 72, 832 was involved towards the construction of Rio community hall.
Greeting message was delivered by Mhaliezolie Metha, chairman, Village Council Chiechama while vote of thanks was proposed by Vikeyie Sopfü Rio. Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism, Law & Justice Yitachu, Parliamentary Secretary for Information & Public Relation Tohonba and NIDC Chairman Nuklutoshi and several others dignitaries also attended the programme.
