Phek, June 3 (MExN): In another disturbing case of child sexual abuse in Nagaland, a minor girl was allegedly assaulted and subsequently found pregnant, following which police arrested the accused in a joint operation with Dimapur Police.
The Media Cell, Phek Police in a press release stated that the case came to light on June 2, 2026, when a written FIR was lodged at the Women Police Station in Phek. The report stated that the alleged accused had sexually assaulted the complainant’s minor sister. Medical examination, including an ultrasound report, later confirmed that the victim was pregnant.
Based on the FIR, police registered Women PS Case No. 0004/26 under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023 including 64(1)(2)(f)(m), 65(1), 74, and 75( (Di) read with relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, specifically Sections 4, 5(ii)(1), 6, 8, and 12.
A special team formed by Phek Police tracked down and arrested the accused from Dimapur with the help of Dimapur Police. The police confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, and the police assured a timely completion with “logical results.”
In a public advisory, Phek Police urged citizens to respect the victim’s privacy and refrain from circulating any information that could lead to her identification. “Doing so is an offence punishable under Section 72 of BNS, 2023 and under Section 23 of the POCSO Act,” the police stated. “Children are the future of every society, therefore should be protected and given the best environment to shine,” it added.
