Kohima, July 12 (MExN): A 5-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by an unidentified individual in the evening of July 9 at Tsiesema, Kohima.
The victim was reportedly lured by the assaulter and left "battered" in a nearby ditch after the heinous crime, according to a press release from the Yimkhiung Union Kohima (YUK).
However, the victim’s neighbours found her in a critical condition and reported the incident to the police, along with her parents. She was later hospitalised at the Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK).
It was learnt that a First Information Report against unidentified individual was registered at the North Police Station, Kohima on the same day and the police is investigating the incident.
Meanwhile, the office of the YUK vehemently condemned the "outrageous and barbaric act" perpetrated by the unidentified individual against the minor, who is a bonafide member of the union. They urged the law enforcement agency to arrest the criminal and ensure justice.
“The Union, while acknowledging the tireless efforts being undertaken by the law enforcing agency, further appeals (the agency) to leave no stone unturned and apprehend the criminal to ensure justice to the traumatised child and her family as per the law of the land,” stated the YUK.
It further expressed gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff of NHAK for timely medical attention administered to the victim.
The union also called upon all right-thinking individuals, societies, and communities to condemn the inhuman act, ‘capable only of being committed by a monster.’
