Mokokchung, May 14 (MExN): The Directorate of Minority Affairs organised an awareness and sensitisation programme at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall in Mokokchung on May 14 to educate notified minority communities about various government welfare schemes.
Officials said the initiative aimed at creating awareness among minority communities, including Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, Parsis and Jains, and ensuring equitable access to educational, economic and infrastructure development opportunities.
Welcoming the officials, Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung Ajit Kumar Verma expressed appreciation to the department for launching the initiative and said sustained institutional outreach would help bridge the information gap among the people regarding welfare programmes.
He also expressed optimism that more targeted schemes would be introduced in the future to support the socio-economic development of the state.
Delivering the keynote address, Joint Director of Minority Affairs Andrew C Imti outlined major schemes aimed at the protection, welfare and economic upliftment of religious minority communities.
He said the newly established Department of Minority Affairs in Nagaland would function as the nodal agency for implementing schemes of the Union Ministry of Minority Affairs that were previously handled by different state departments.
The programme featured presentations by departmental officials on various welfare initiatives.
Program Assistant Khriezotuolie explained micro-credit schemes available through the National Minorities Development and Finance Corporation (NMDFC), while Superintendent Rugozeto Iralu highlighted application procedures for minority scholarship schemes.
Project Officer Shalo Khing also made a presentation on infrastructure and skill development initiatives under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK) and PM VIKAS schemes. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Andrew C Imti.
