The event began on a lively note with a musical piece presentation entitled ‘The Love of God’, by Ellen, prior to which she shared how she had been transformed through the Miqlat Ministry.

Asha Sanchu, Director, Miqlat Ministry briefed the gathering on the ministry stating that Miqlat was the brainchild of the Celebration of Women in the 21st Century in 2001. She expressed her profound gratitude to K.Kapfo, who was the then Women Secretary of NBCC, for coming up with the vision and also imbibing it in them.

She said that Miqlat reaches out to the down trodden women of our society which includes sex workers, school drop outs, sexually exploited and abused, and women most vulnerable to infectious diseases. She said Miqlat was about empowering these women and restoring in them the dignity and honour of their womanhood.

She also expressed her gratitude to the Directorate of Women Development for collaborating with the ministry to provide rehabilitation to the women in need. She announced with pride that the first batch of women were ready to leave after the successful completion of a year’s course.

O. Alem, IPS DGP, Nagaland shared that Miqlat have been a shelter and a home to destitute women, it is doing the service of God by lifting these women on their feet, being the giver of hope to the broken. He expressed that there is no higher commandment than love: Love for one another, Love for neighbors, and love for enemies.

Dr. Hukashe, Director, NDO NBCC in his address compared the Ministry with the ‘Cities of Refuge’ from the book of Numbers. “Miqlat Ministry is the cities of refuge to Dimapur and to Nagaland.

It is accessible and available to all in need. Without the cities of refuge many would die unnecessarily”, he said. The Ministry is a power house of security, always prepared and looking out for the needy. He also urged the people, as Christians to be like the cities of refuge, opening the gate of one’s heart and giving a chance, and a hope to people who need help.

Sharing on their experiences at the Ministry, Ellen and Grace thanked the Ministry for the life changing opportunity. They are both victims of alcohol and drug abuse, but with the help of the Ministry they were able to renew their life as a believer. Not only were they revived spiritually, but the Ministry also helped them develop various skills for survival. Grace, on behalf of all the women in the Rehabilitation programme said they were ever grateful for the care, support, and trust the Ministry has shown towards them.
