Mithun development programme in Nagaland

Mithun development programme is being implemented by the state’s department of veterinary and animal husbandry to conserve and propagate Mithun production in the breeding tracks in situ. In 2011-12, the programme is being implemented in three districts of the state covering 1.1 lakh hectares of forest land in 44 villages whereby a total of 220 numbers of elite Mithun is being implemented to provide an alternative farming to the farmers against Jhuming which is less economical and can results in forest degradation.
