The total count of positive cases for COVID-19 in Mizoram has reached 34 with the State reporting 12 fresh cases of the disease in the past 48 hours. 8 males and 4 females were tested positive for COVID-19 during this period.

With this recovery and discharge of the first case, Mizoram stands with 33 active cases of COVID-19 as of now.

All the confirmed cases of COVID-19 are returnees from outside the State. The first case was reported on March 24.

According to the Health department source, all the fresh cases are asymptomatic. They are among those 552 samples tested on Friday and Saturday at Zoram Medical College in Aizawl.

Meanwhile, among the 33 active cases in Mizoram, 21 are females and 12 are males.

It is likely that Mizoram will report more cases of COVID-19 in the coming days as stranded people continue to return in large numbers. Accordingly, the Health department is also collecting samples for testing in a concerted manner in the past few days from various quarantine centres across the State.

Till date, Mizoram has not reported any case of fatality due to COVID-19.

Meanwhile, Mizoram Health minister Dr. R. Lalthangliana appealed the people not to panic as all the cases reported in the State are “imported” and there is no local transmission till date.
