Mizoram to get cable car service soon

The Mizoram government will launch ‘cable car service’ on two corridors in Aizawl to improve public transport system and ease traffic snarls.


According to Mizoram Deputy Chief Minister Tawnluia, the proposed aerial cable car system will be constructed on the North-South corridor between Durtlang and Kulikawn and the East-West corridor between Thuampui in the east and Solomon’s Temple in the west.


He also said that the state government will construct pedestrian flyover bridges at two locations in Aizawl to ease the growing traffic snarls in the state capital.


 Tawnluia who is also Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation minister said that the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has approved in principle, the proposal for setting up of two pedestrian flyover bridges- one at Vaivakawn and the other at Bawngkawn area in the western and eastern sides of the state capital respectively.


A feasibility study for the two projects is being undertaken, he said.


The Deputy Chief Minister said that distance or length of the proposed pedestrian flyover bridges will be decided after the completion of feasibility study.


He said the projects are part of the government's efforts to reduce traffic jams in the state capital. Aizawl currently has four pedestrian bridges between Bazar Bungkawn and Khatla.
