Newmai News Network Aizawl | March 28 Mizoram will launch the Measles Rubella (MR) vaccination campaign across the state from April 16 to cover around 3 lakh children, the state’s Immunization Officer Dr Lalzawmi said during a media sensitization workshop on Measles-Rubella vaccination here on Wednesday. She said that the campaign drive will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla. Dr. Lalhlimpuii, who talked about Measles Rubella Vaccination campaign strategy said over 3.74 lakh children in the age group of 9 months to 15 years are targeted in the campaign which will be launched in entire Mizoram in a single phase. She said that campaign will be launched in government hospitals, schools, health centres and outreach across the state and vaccination will be administered by trained health workers. According to Lalhlimpuii, cases of rubella were recently detected in the state. She said that the government set a target to achieve 100 per cent coverage in all districts. She added that 20 per cent of children infected with rubella virus in the world were Indians. Measles is one of the most contagious diseases ever known and is an important cause of death and disability among young children worldwide. Rubella can cause severe birth defects, blindness, pneumonia and diarrhea Symptoms of Measles includes cough, fever, red eyes, light sensitivity, muscle aches, runny nose, sore throat, white spots inside the mouth and widespread skin rash. MR vaccination campaign has been launched in 15 states and over 5 crore children had been covered across the country.
