The Mizoram government today launched "tourist police" for the first time to boost tourism in the state, an official statement said.
"Tourist police" will be responsible for safety and security of tourists during their travels, stay and visit to various tourist destinations in the state, the statement added.
Mizoram "tourist police" comprises of police personnel trained in soft skills, communication skills and equipped with knowledge of tourist places. The "tourist police" will initially be deployed in five major tourist attractions such as entry and exit point at Lengpui Airport, Solomon’s Temple at Chawlhmun locality in Aizawl, Millennium Centre in Aizawl, Thenzawl in Serchhip district and Zokhawthar on the Mizoram-Myanmar border.
Now tourists may seek helps from Mizoram Tourist Police (MTP) regarding tourist locations, transport systems, facilities in the destinations, legal information and other important places like shopping centres and hospitals, among others Tourists may also approach MTP booths to seek information regarding safety and security of their destination and ask for directions.
In the event of emergencies in a tourist place, tourists may call up MTP for immediate intervention. Tourist can also lodge complaint with MTP in case of cheating, stealing of belongings, mischief or wrong doings.
