Newmai News Network Aizawl | February 27 At least 2,707 cases related to various crimes were registered by Mizoram Police in various police stations over the last one year from January to December, 2017, a crime review meeting of police officials said on Tuesday. The annual crime review meeting convened under the leadership of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) for northern range and southern range Joseph Lalchhuana revealed that at least 2,837 cases of IPC and non-IPC were registered in 2016 against 2,707 in 2017. The number of cases registered in 2017 was decreased by 4.58 per cent with 130 differences against the number of cases registered in 2016, the meeting said. During January this year, at least 202 cases connected with different crimes were registered in various police stations across the state. The meeting also revealed that at least 2,123 cases were registered under IPC in 2017 against 2,426 cases in 2016. As for non-IPC, 584 and 411 cases were registered in 2017 and 2016 respectively. The highest number of cases both IPC and non-IPC were registered in Aizawl district at 11,230 in 2017 and 1,383 in 2016, followed by Kolasib district which registered 713 cases of both IPC and non-IPC in the last two years. Lawngtlai district got the least figure at 194 cases during two years. The meeting observed that the menace of drug abuse is on the rise in the state as drug smuggling from neighbouring Myanmar has increased rapidly. The meeting sought cooperation from civil societies to combat the growing menace of drug abuse in the state. Meanwhile, police cautioned against the increase in human trafficking. They said that two Rohingya children from Myanmar, who were victim of human trafficking, were recently arrested along with traffickers in Champhai district.
