Mokokchung, November 29 (MExN): Mokokchung district alone consumes about fifty-eight lakh kilos of meat annually. Out of this, the district imports about 34 lakh kilograms of meat which is roughly calculated at around Rs 32 crores annually, disclosed the Mokokchung ADC Kesonyu Yhome at a programme held at Elate Hall here today.
This startling revelation was made by the ADC (who was the chief guest) at an Industrial Motivation Campaign organized by the Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises – Development Institute (MSME-DI) in association with Yimsean Livelihood Development Society, Dimapur. The Industrial Motivation Campaigns are being organized to identify and motivate traditional/non-traditional entrepreneurs having potential for setting up MSEs so as to lead them towards self-employment.
Mokokchung ADC Kesonyu Yhome , while talking on varied issues related with entrepreneurship, strongly lamented that there are many consumers in the society but no producers. He even pointed out that in the handicrafts sector like weaving and woodcarving, the artisans produce the goods only when there is demand in the market; therefore, wherever there is an emergency demand of goods, the artisans do not have the stock, which greatly hampers their business and industry.
In this regard, Yhome cited an instance of the fruit producers in the state; he said that the pineapple growers in Nagaland could not meet even ten percent of the annual pineapple demand by Dabur India (the Ayurvedic and Health Care giant company).
Besides, pointing out that the number of educated unemployed youths in Nagaland in the year 2006 stood at 46,000, Yhome however maintained that most of the people do not want to ‘go down’ and work, which only compounds the unemployment problem in the state.
He therefore stressed on entrepreneurship and banking culture. He maintained that more bank accounts mean more savings. He also encouraged the entrepreneurs to start their businesses with a vision and proper planning and to focus on ‘demand driven industry’ in the society. He also gave a mantra to the aspiring entrepreneurs, that if they have to start their businesses, “they should start early”.
More than sixty people, mostly educated unemployed youths and upcoming entrepreneurs, attend the Industrial Motivation Campaign today. The Associate Director of YLDS, Tiarenla delivered the welcome speech while the keynote address was delivered by Nagaraja, the Assistant Director In charge of MSME.
The DHO of Mokokchung was the special guest at the programme while the guest of honor was I Sashi Pongener, NRB.
