The Mokokchung Police in collaboration with Ao Baptist Arogo Mungdang, Ao Kaketshir Mungdang, Mokokchung District Legal Services Association, Christ Church and Mokokchung Motorcycle Association organized ‘Run for Mokokchung’ on 26 June to mark the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
In a brief introductory programme at Police point, Raguramarajan A, IPS, SP, Mokokchung appreciated the people of Mokokchung and said that the race was organized not only to create awareness but also to sensitize and seek support and co-operation from the people in eradicating drugs abuse. He also added that the police cannot do it alone and that the support of the people is very much needed.
More than 500 people joined the race against drugs and narcotics substances abuse which was flagged off by Rev. Dr. Mar Atsongchanger, Executive secretary, ABAM.Three winners each were declared from both the men and women’s category.
Nungshithung, Imlitoshi and Lanumoa won the first, second and third prize respectively in the men’s category and Sungtiyala C. Imchen, Chemdi R. Sangtam and Throngtila won first, second and third prize respectively in the women’s category. The winners were awarded with cash prize and certificates.
The Mokokchung Police also organized an inter-school essay writing competition on June 25 in observance of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on the topic “Let us Make health our new his in life and not drugs.” Students from 17 schools participated out of which, Temjenlemla T. Jamir from Queen Mary Hr. Sec School was declared as the winner while Susma Rao of Straightway Hr. sec School and Imisangba Jamir of Senayangba Govt. Hr. sec School bagged the second and the third prize respectively.
