Mkg Inter-School Badminton Championship 2022 underway

The Mokokchung Inter-School Badminton Championship 2022 got underway at Badminton Stadium, Mokokchung on May 11. A yearly event of the Mokokchung District Badminton Association (MDBA), the championship was on hold for the past two years due to the pandemic. 

In this year’s edition of the championship, there are more than 130 participants representing 12 schools from Mokokchung. Martoshi Jamir, President, MDBA, in his welcome address, welcomed all the participating schools and the players. He also informed that the MDBA Summer coaching camp will tentatively be held in the month of June followed by the Mokokchung District Badminton Tournament.

He encouraged all the young players to take part in the coaching camp and also to participate in the tournament.  He further informed that intensive coaching will be given to those individuals who will represent the district in state level tournament. 

Dr Abemo, Registrar, Nagaland University, Lumami, who was the special guest at the opening ceremony appreciated the MDBA for giving platform to the young aspiring players to exhibit and develop themselves.

He said that sports is an important element in the development of an individual’s life and encouraged the students by saying that “your participation in the sport is not only to win the game but winning the hearts of the people around you. You may or may not win but you have an opportunity to win the people around you.”

He also said that the championship was an opportunity to utilize and build up one’s character. He further encouraged all the participants to compete in the championship with utmost sporting spirit and let their action and participation display one’s character. 

Oath taking and briefing to the captains of the participating school was initiated by the technical committee followed by the declaration of the tournament by the special guest.

The championship will witness competition in 16 different categories.
